The week ahead

THERE are four Elements that are represented in the Zodiac - Fire, Earth, Air, and Water - and they all symbolise different types of energy. Fire represents enthusiasm and excitement; Earth represents security and safety; Air represents the intellect and objectivity; and Water represents emotions and sensitivity. This week, the Sun, Mercury, Mars, and Venus are all in the Water sign of Cancer, which means that people will tend to feel more emotional, intuitive, and empathetic than usual. They will also tend to take things very personally and there is likely to be more than a few people walking around with hurt feelings.

Fortunately, there are three other planets in Air signs, which will help somewhat to give everyone's very personal orientation a small amount of objectivity. The Air signs give clarity, and distance which are qualities that are not embodied by the more personal Water signs. If you notice lots of sensitivity and emotions in the air this week, you will know why.

Sundaresa Sastrigal, Chennai-4.

In earlier articles, under Focus, different types of Panchakam observed in our country have been explained in detail.

Panchakam is derived by adding the numbers of the day of the week (Sunday 1 to Saturday 7) the Thithi, the star (Aswini 1 to Meena 12). Dividing the sum total by 9, if what remains 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8, we will have Mrithyu, Agni, Raaja, Chora, or Vasu Panchakam ruling. For certain Lagnas, Dhruvam is added.

While Panchakam is an important factor, Lagna, Lagna lord's position, and good Tharabalam must combine to give a good Muhurtha.
