Demand for halt at Varkala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 8. The Railway Passengers' Association, Varkala, has demanded the stoppage of all long distance mail and express trains passing through the Kollam-Thiruvananthapuram sector at Varkala station.

A meeting of the passengers association also demanded railway authorities to reinstate the stoppage for the Vanchinad Express, introduction of computer reservation facility, dormitory and retiring facilities at the railway station, stoppage for the new trains extended to the Thiruvananthapuram central from July 1 and construction of a shelter for Platform number 2.

The Association general secretary, Mr. K. S. Prasad, in a release here today, said the railway station is used by those staying in the municipal limits and those staying in the two dozen adjacent panchayats. The meeting urged the railways to implement the demands at the earliest taking into account the importance of the railway station.
