Expose caste-based bodies, electorate told

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI, JULY 8. The state executive of the BJP has strongly criticised the activities of certain caste-based organisations in the State, for instigating caste clashes to derive political advantage.

A meeting of the state executive was held here today under the presidentship of Mr. S. P. Kripanidhi. A resolution pointed out that certain political parties were supporting such a caste organisations and appealed to the electorate to expose them.

Another resolution appealed to the NDA partners not to air openly the differences among them. Mr. H. Raja, general secretary of the state unit, briefing pressmen said that another resolution hailed the policy of the Indian Government on the Sri Lankan issue, and thanked the constituent parties of the NDA for their support on the issue.

The BJP wanted the State Government to fix remunerative prices for farm produce, and extension of the time given to farmers for repayment of co-operative loans so that they could take full advantage of the concessions offered by the Government.

Call for unity

The bickerings and mistrust among the NDA partners in Tamil Nadu would weaken the alliance in the State said, Mr. Jana Krishnamurthy, vice president of the BJP here today.

Talking to presspersons, he hoped that Dr. S. Ramadoss, PMK leader would ponder over the issue, and follow a more constructive policy. The BJP was always willing to extend help to the NDA partners to iron out their differences, but hastened to add that he hoped that the DMK president would take appropriate action in this issue.

He refused to comment on the allegation made by Dr. Ramadoss that the Chief Minister was turning a blind eye to the continuing violence perpetrated by the Dalit Panthers in Cuddalore district.

Referring to demand made by Mr. Vazhapadi K.Ramamurthy for banning the PMK and the MDMK for their support to the Tamil Eelam issue, the BJP leader said that it would be better if the NDA partners refrained from making such demands and charges openly against one another.

Mr. Krishnamoorthy said that action should be taken against miscreants indulging in communal violence, irrespective of their caste or creed. He criticised Mr. G. K. Moopanar, TMC president for politicising the burning of the churches in some states.

The NDA Government was following a pro-active policy respecting the aspirations of the states for more powers to implement the developmental programmes.
