Shun 'yes boss' attitude, PM tells bureaucrats
NEW DELHI, JULY 8. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
today asked civil servants not to adopt a ``yes boss'' attitude
but give their free and frank opinion on files.
The civil servants, as compared to the politicians, stayed in
public service for a longer period and hence had a greater
responsibility towards the country, he said while meeting the
1998 batch of IAS probationers, who called on him after
completing their training.
The country had no dearth of money but it needed proper
utilisation so that the benefits reached the poor.
The Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani, said IAS officials had a
vital role to play in the country's development since they
wielded considerable influence in the society. Though some
professions had become financially more paying, the
administrative service continued to provide great deal of
opportunities and challenges.
``The administrators wield influence in the society which should
be effectively used to meet the requirements of the country's
progress,'' he said.
