Mahanta encouraging secessionists: Cong.

By Our Special Correspondent

GUWAHATI, JULY 8. The Congress today charged the Assam Chief Minister, Mr. Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, with encouraging anti- national and secessionist forces in the country. The AICC spokesman, Mr. Ajit Jogi, told mediapersons here today that Mr. Mahanta was ``raking up'' the autonomy issue simply because he knew his party's fate was doomed and it was going to be rejected by the people in the next Assembly polls.

He said Mr. Mahanta, like Akali Dal leaders in Punjab, was making ``objectionable and irresponsible'' statements that would encourage separatism.

Mr. Jogi, who did not appear to be well-versed in facts, did not even know that the AGP is not in the NDA as he named the AGP as an NDA constituent.
