Rajasthan to extend famine relief

JAIPUR, JUNE 29.The Rajasthan Government has decided to extend its famine relief till July 15 because of the delay in monsoon, official sources said.

The decision to extend the relief works was taken yesterday at a famine relief monitoring committee meeting which was headed by the Chief Minister, Mr. Ashok Gehlot, an official spokeperson said. Famine relief works are usually stopped on June 15 after the outbreak of monsoon, but the rains have been delayed this time. The south-west monsoon should have advanced into Rajasthan between June 15 and 17.

The meeting decided to raise the grant-in-aid for conservation in relief camps of young animals from Rs. 5 to Rs.6.50 per cattle and of adult animals from Rs.10 to Rs.13.
