All set for Yanam by-election
PONDICHERRY, JUNE 29. The Chief Electoral Officer of Pondicherry,
Mr. S. Hemachandran, now in Yanam to supervise arrangements for
tomorrow`s by-election said over phone from the constituency
today that all arrangements for the poll had been completed. The
electronic voting machines were moved to the booths.
The constituency has a total strength of 17,588 voters and 13,042
of these voters were in possession of the Electors Photo Identity
Cards (EPICs) and the remaining voters could present some other
alternative documentary evidence while exercising their
franchise.
Necessary police force from Pondichery had been requisitioned. A
flag march by the police under the leadership of the Senio
Superintendent of Police, Mr. Anandh Mohan, was held on Wednesday
to infuse confidence in the people about the peaceful conduct of
the poll.
