56.95 p.c. clear SET
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 29. The results of the State Eligibility
Test (SET), for appointment of teachers to higher secondary
schools in Kerala, prepared on the basis of the test conducted on
June 10, have been announced. Of the 30,570 candidates who had
appeared in as many as 28 subjects, 17,409 have been declared to
have qualified, the pass percentage being 56.95.
In the case of candidates who have approached the courts,
challenging the applicability of the SET to them, the results
will be purely provisional and will be subject to the final
decision of the courts.
The results of some candidates have been withheld on technical
grounds. Their results will be released only after rectification
of the defects.
The list of candidates declared eligible, will be forwarded to
the Department of Higher Secondary Education for further
necessary action. The eligibility certificate for the successful
candidates will be issued by the Commissioner for Entrance
Examinations.
There were two papers for the test. Candidates who have secured a
separate minimum of 35 per cent marks for each paper and
aggregate minimum of 40 per cent marks in both the papers put
together, have been declared as passed in the SET.
Candidates for two subjects _ French and Syriac _ have registered
100 per cent pass. In Geography and Commerce too, the pass
percentage is above 90 _ 96.59 in the case of the former and
94.15 in the case of the latter. In History, 91.92 per cent of
candidates have been declared to have passed the test. The
lowest percentage of pass is in Computer Science _ 6.64. The
Chemistry teachers also have fared rather poorly, with only 9.28
per cent of the candidates qualifying the test.
There are a number of candidates who have secured below 10 per
cent marks, some below five and a few even zero per cent.
The test was conducted at 87 centres spread over the 14 districts
of the State.
