Match-fixing report delayed
CAPE TOWN, JUNE 29. The deadline for an interim report into
cricket match-fixing in South Africa has been extended to August
11, an official of the King's Commission of inquiry said today.
Judge Edwin King, who heads the commission, was due to hand the
report to the President, Mr. Thabo Mbeki, tomorrow, but has been
given more time to prepare it due to the work-load generated at
the inquiry, which adjourned on Monday.
The Commission Secretary, Mr. John Bacon, said today: ``The sheer
volume of work involved is the cause of the delay. There are
1,143 pages of transcripts of evidence alone from the 10 days of
hearings... that does not include copies of statements and other
documents.''
