Pak. militancy directed against Kashmir: U.S.
WASHINGTON, JUNE 17. The United States is alarmed by the rise of
Islamic militancy in Pakistan, a phenomenon that was responsible
for bombing in New York City, and is currently ``directed against
Kashmir'', the U.S. State Department has said. The Washington
Times today quoted a senior State Department official saying,
``The phenomenon is viewed as part of the same militancy that
manifests itself in attacks on Central Asian states, an
insurgency in the Philippines and a terror-bombing in New York
City.''
``The World Trade Centre bombers were trained and organised in
Pakistan and neighbouring Afghanistan,'' the official said,
adding that Afghanistan has become ``a swamp'', breeding
dangerous terrorists who have attacked Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and
other states.
