Vinod Patney Vice-Chief of Air Staff

NEW DELHI, JUNE 17. Air Marshal Vinod Patney has been appointed as the Vice-Chief of Air Staff, replacing Air Marshal B.S. Brar who is retiring.

Air Marshal Patney who is presently heading the IAF's Central Command has been the sole Air Force officer to be awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva medal for his contribution in the Kargil war. Air Marshal Patney, during the Kargil war, had headed the Western Air Command which was mainly responsible for launching air strikes against the Pakistani intruders.

Air Marshal Patney was commissioned in 1961 and had participated in the Indo-Pak. conflict of 1965 where he was decorated with a Vir Chakra. He also participated in the 1971 war.

INS Viraat Captain

UNI reports from Mumbai:

Captain Rustom Faramrose Contractor took over the command of the Navy's aircraft carrier, INS Viraat from captain S.K. Damle at an impressive parade held on board the ship here on Friday.

Capt. Faramrose, a graduate of the college of naval warfare, Mumbai and Royal College of Defence Studies, London, was the Chief Staff Officer (operations) at the Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam prior to taking over present appointment.
