34 gunned down in Bihar village
At least 34 people, including woman
and children, belonging to some intermediary backward castes and
Dalits, were shot dead and 19 injured by gunmen of the Ranvir
Sena, a private army of upper caste Bhumihars, in Mianpur tola of
Upahara village under Goh police station limits of central
Bihar's Aurangabad district last night.
New statute to cover 'all Fijians'
Fiji's interim military Government today pledged
to uphold its moral obligation of taking into consideration the
interests of all the people in this country while continuing to
sympathise with the cause of the indigenous Fijians so as to
``make sure that their aspirations (and) fears are covered in a
(proposed) new Constitution''.
Azhar should face CBI, says Minister
The Union Minister of State for Sports, Mr.
Shahnawaz Hussain, today described as ``unfortunate'' former
Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin's remark that he was
being dragged into the match-fixing controversy as he was from a
minority community. He said Azhar should come forward and face
the CBI, which is investigating the case.
PM seeks details of massacre
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
is reported to have sought through ``central sources'' details
about the latest massacre in Bihar which has resulted in 34
brutal deaths. So far, only the central agencies' assessment has
been sought, and the Centre would be wary, at this stage, to be
seen as taking more than a ``correct'' interest.
India told of Sri Lankan panel for north-east
The Sri Lankan Government has officially
informed India about its decision to constitute an interim
council to administer the northern and eastern provinces as a
prelude to the commencement of a new peace process with the
rebels.

Plaint against Salman Khan
A complaint was filed against Bollywood star
Salman Khan by the Rajasthan Forest Department today in the court
of the judicial magistrate, Jodhpur, for hunting blackbuck in
Bishnoi territory in October, 1998.
