Mufti favours dialogue with separatists

SRINAGAR, JUNE 13. The People's Democratic Party (PDP), led by the former Union Home Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has summoned its political affairs committee and State executive to discuss the political and security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and called for dialogue with alienated sections of society.

The party's seven-member political affairs committee held a meeting here on Tuesday attended among others by Mr. Sayeed, Ms. Mehbooba Mufti, and Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Beig.The party expressed anguish over the increase in killings in the State.

Mr. Sayeed told TheHindu that there should not be any delay in initiating a formal dialogue with separatists so that a lasting and final settlement to the Kashmir issue was negotiated.

The PDP is likely to adopt a resolution on issues concerning the State such as security, development, employment, price hike and good governance. A senior leader said, peace was the priority for the party.
