BCCI to take up Bacher allegation at ICC forum
MUMBAI, JUNE 13. The Indian cricket Board is upset with South
African cricket Board chief Ali Bacher's claim that last year's
World Cup match between India and Pakistan was `fixed' and said
it will take up the matter with the International Cricket Council
later this month.
``I don't want to comment on it. Kindly ask the President,'' was
the Baroda-based Board Secretary Jaywant Lele's initial reaction.
But on being prodded further he said: ``All I can say now is that
the matter will be taken up by the Board at the ICC meeting in
London (scheduled for June 22-27),'' he added.
However, other Board sources revealed that it is felt Bacher had
no business to throw stones at others residing as he is in a
glass house as is being proved by the revelations at the justice
King inquiry commission in South Africa.
``He has said he knows an Indian bookie. How does he know him?
Does he have any proof that the World Cup match was fixed,'' they
wondered.
On Monday, Bacher had claimed during his deposition before the
inquiry commission in Cape Town that former Pakistan captain and
cricket Board official Majid Khan had told him that two matches
in the World Cup in England last year, both involving Pakistan,
were fixed.
Bacher said in his testimony that the two matches in question
were against India and cricketing minnows Bangladesh.
Pakistan had lost both the matches.
