More than palms sway here
ANOTHER SATURDAY night. Another bash by the beach at EC41.
Actually, it did start with a bash. The bouncers did have some
work to do with an unruly tourist. Just as you start to think
here was a brawl, the action dies out after the bouncers take
control.
Driving down the East Coast Road at night is enough to send
shivers down the spine. Add to that, the chill of the night by
the beach. The noise of the waves hugging the sea welcomes you as
you finally reach the dance floor.
Look up, there are the bright little stars beyond the sprinklers
that would produce the `rain' later that night. At eleven, it
does look like a deserted ship, with a deck of a decor and the
`sails' on the top. Deja vu? Titanic images?
The beach volleyball court is deserted too. If you had fallen
asleep you wouldn't believe the transformation that sets in after
midnight. The whole place is flooded, the music blasting away,
the soundwaves drowning the sound of waves. The temperatures
rise...Yes, soon, the whole place gets stuffy and there's no
place on the dance floor.
So what was the excuse to party this time? CavinKare was bringing
down World No. 21, DJ Nasha a.k.a Ritesh D'Souza to `scratch' the
discs, juggle a few beats, execute the cuts and get the crowd on
their toes.
Ritesh became DJ Nasha because he couldn't become a rock star. In
six years, he has come a long way and to Chennai. ``It is
improving. People are really getting on to partying at night,''
is what he has to say about the crowd.
And what about the disc? ``Oh, it's my favourite. I like to play
here of all the places, because I have never played at a disc on
the beach. And the sound, the ambience, the sprinklers, there's
not a place like this anywhere else,'' he says.
Just as it was getting more stuffy, the sprinklers went about
their Saturday chores, drenching the dancers.
