PMK men assault shopkeepers
By Our Staff Reporter
PERAMBALUR, JUNE 13. Two persons were allegedly assaulted by a
group of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) volunteers here on Monday
when they refused to oblige the latter with donation for a party
meet.
The PMK men, led by the party town secretary, Mr. Sathyaseelan,
were going round the town reportedly collecting donations for a
party meeting. They went to the footwear shop of Mr. Mohammed
Ibrahim, and demanded Rs. 500 from him.
When he refused, a scuffle ensued and the party volunteers
assaulted him and his neighbour, Mr. Mathialagan, who came to his
defence.
Both of them sustained injuries and have been admitted to the
Perambalur Government hospital.
Perambalur Town police have registered two separate cases based
on complaints from the rival parties.
Mr. Sathyaseelan, in his compliant, alleged that he was abused by
the shopkeepers.
Security has been tightened in the town following the incident.
