11 naxalites surrender

HYDERABAD, JUNE 13. Eleven naxalites, four of them belonging to the banned People's War Group (PWG) and others owing allegiance to two other splinter extremist groups, surrendered themselves in response to a call given by the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, during the recently organised surrendered naxalites mela. Two of them have handed over two 8 mm rifles, one 12 bore gun and 80 rounds of live ammunition.

According to a police press release, a commander of the special action squad, Jannu Sadaiah alias Mogili, who was reportedly involved in several murder cases, including the Jakaram landmine blast in which a circle inspector and six policemen were killed, was one of the surrendered persons. His wife, Aruna, herself a squad member, also surrendered with him. Three other squad members - Samba Raju Madhu alias Yakanna, working in one of the military platoons, Manda Ramesh alias Vinodh, a member of the Warangal town squad, Chiluka Srinivas alias Bhaskar, working in Huzurabad dalam - also surrendered themselves.

The press release added that Chennaboina Venkanna alias Chinna, and Sriram Shankar, both members of the CPI-ML Praja Pratighatana group, surrendered along with their weapons. Four more members of the Janasakhti group - Sompeta Swamy, Akula Sreenu, Kalwala Swaroopa and Siddaboina Sammaiah - also surrendered. All of them would be rehabilitated and the Government would consider withdrawal of cases against them, the press release added.
