DUSU to set up 21 information centres
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI, JUNE 6. In its preparations for the forthcoming
session, the Delhi University Students Union would be putting up
21 admission information centres at various points in the
University as well as run a shuttle service under the new traffic
arrangements on north campus from Wednesday.
The new traffic arrangement has been done to avoid traffic
congestion and make it easier for admission seekers. According to
this arrangement, four of the eight entry points would be closed
while two others have been made one-way. This would leave just
the University Road and the Chhatra Marg open for regular
traffic.
The shuttle service for the convenience of students would be run
from Hansraj College. While one bus would move clockwise, the
other would run anti-clockwise. Explaining the arrangement, the
DUSU president, Ms. Ritu Verma, said: ``As per our calculations,
either of the buses would be available every 15 minutes at each
stop. The service would run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This change is
also an important step towards making a compact campus.''
Of the 21 admission information centres, five would be set up on
North Campus and the rest would be spread out in the covering
most colleges around the city. These booths will provide a
bulletin detailing information about the admission process and
the previous year's cut-off list.
Further, DUSU has advised prospective students to inform them in
case they came across some wrong practice in any college. Ms.
Verma also urged candidates not to fall prey to any
misinformation suggesting that anyone below 60 per cent marks
should not apply.
This apart, even the Progressive Students Union would also be
setting up six information centres of its own, of which the one
at the Delhi University Sports Complex would exclusively for
SC/ST students. The Union would also be running a flying squad to
monitor the admission process.
