By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 6. The Cabinet has decided to set up
casualty units in 10 Government hospitals, the Chief Minister,
Mr. E.K. Nayanar, said.
Briefing mediapersons after a Cabinet meeting here today, the
Chief Minister said the hospitals were the Women and Children
hospitals at Kozhikode and Alappuzha, the Victoria Hospital,
Kollam, the Taluk hospitals at Neyyattinkara, Ernakulam and

would be created in each of the hospitals.
The Law Minister, Mr. E. Chandrasekharan Nair, who was also
present, said the Cabinet had decided on redeployment of 2,145
engineers and 1,302 clerks in Government service to the local
bodies. The Cabinet sub-committee, which had considered a
proposal to redeploy 4,388 engineers, had decided to reduce their
the number.
Mr. Nayanar said the committee constituted to conduct a detailed
study on depletion of water in the Bharatappuzha would be
reconstituted with the Dr. M.R. Das (chairman of State Committee
on Science, Technology and Environment) as chairman. The Chief
Engineer (Irrigation and Administration) will be the convener.
The executive director of the Centre for Water Resources
Development and Management and retired Chief Engineer, Mr. T.N.N.
Bhattathiripad, would be members of the committee. The committee
would submit its report in three months.
It approved the agreement proposed to be signed between the State
Electricity Board and the International Centre of Small
Hydroelectric Power for import of four generators for small
hydroelectric projects in the State and for engineering and
design consultancy. It decided to appoint Mr. Sukumar Oommen as
chairman of the Board.
Mr. Raju Narayana Swamy would be posted as State Coordinator of
Quality Improvement in School Education. Mr. A. R. Muraleedharan
would be posted as Director of Youth Welfare and Sports and Mr.
P. S. Enos as Director of Employment and Training. Mr. A. Meeran
Sahib would be promoted as Director of Economics and Statistics.
The term of the Director of Institute of Management in
Government, Mr. G. Balamohan Thampi, would be extended by a year.
It approved the proposal to issue title deeds to residents of the
Sulaiman and Sree Chitra colonies in Thiruvananthapuram city
subject to the satisfaction of the Collector that the land would
not be needed for the development of the Thiruvananthapuram
airport. It approved the State Housing Board's proposal to grant
selection grades to its stenographers and typists with
retrospective effect.
Replying to questions about the High Court order banning hartals,
the Chief Minister said political parties would have to look for
other means of protest. The Government would not be going on
appeal against the verdict as it was political parties which
organised hartals. It was up to political parties to go on
appeal.
