Court order to Jayalalitha
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JUNE 6. The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms.
Jayalalitha, has been directed to appear on July 3 before a
Chennai special court trying the Rs. 6.5-crore coal import scam
case.
In June last, the Special Court had discharged her from the case
on the ground that there was nothing to connect her with the
alleged criminal conspiracy. On a revision petition filed by the
Government, the High Court upheld the order.
On further appeal by the prosecution, the Supreme Court on May 9
set aside the Special Court and High Court orders and directed
Ms. Jayalalitha to stand trial.
Following the Supreme Court order, the prosecution filed a memo
today before the Special Judge-II stating that in view of the
direction of the apex court Ms. Jayalalitha might be summoned for
trial. The Judge, V.Radhakrishnan, accepted the memo and ordered
issue of summons.
