Action sought against Thangabalu
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JUNE 4. The former TNCC (I) president Mr. K. V.
Thangabalu's call for inner- party democracy in the Congress(I)
has drawn flak from the party seniors.
While former MP, Mr. R. Anbarasu termed it as ``unfair'' and
appealed to Mr. Thangabalu not to revolt against the high
command, a group of functionaries have decided to go to Delhi on
June 10 to urge the party leadership to initiate disciplinary
action against him.
Deploring Mr. Thangabalu's reported remarks yesterday that the
PCC(I) presidents should not be nominated, Mr. Anbarasu said that
the Congress(I) was functioning in a democratic manner and there
was no need for demanding inner-party democracy.
Talking to the presspersons, the TNCC(I) general secretary, Mr.
P. V. Rajeswaran, charged that Mr.Thangabalu's statement was
tantamount to an open challenge to the Congress (I) president,
Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and called for disciplinary action against him.
He also demanded removal of the TNCC(I) president, Mr. Tindivanam
K. Ramamurthy, for ``surrendering to the TMC'' to hold on to
party post. ``The AICC(I) had not directed the state unit to work
under the leadership of Mr. Moopanar (TMC president),'' he said.
About 10 party functionaries including him would go to Delhi on
June 10 to impress upon the Congress(I) high command to sack Mr.
Ramamurthy and initiate action against Mr. Thangabalu for his
``anti-party'' statements.
