RAPP third unit begins generation of electricity

JAIPUR, JUNE 2. The third unit of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) has started commercial generation of electricity, making RAPP the country's biggest atomic energy park, official sources said today.

The 220 MW unit, which started functioning last night, was currently being run at 100 MW capacity, the project director, Mr. K.P. Ojha, said in a statement here. The first two units of the RAPP, which is located at Rawatbhata, have a capacity of 150 MW and 200 MW respectively.

Work on the fourth unit is under way and it is likely to become critical by the end of the year, raising the combined capacity of all the four units to 790 MW, he said.

While the power generated by the first two units is being exclusively given to Rajasthan, the electricity generated by the third unit will be given to the northern gird.
