Karunanidhi asks MDMK to drop rally plan

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JUNE 2. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, today suggested that the MDMK give up its plan to organise a rally in Chennai on June 5 in support of ``Eelam Tamils''.

``It is better to avoid when a matter becomes controversial. This is my view'', he said answering a question whether the government proposed to permit or ban the MDMK rally when media persons greeted him on his 77th birthday at the State Secretariat.

``You can take my counsel to the MDMK as part of my birthday message'', he said.

The TMC has called for a ban on the MDMK ``rally to press for protection of rights of Eelam Tamils''.
