Film Review: Deep Rising
THE FILM, dubbed in Tamil, opens with some terrorists on a boat
that belongs to the hero. He is instructed to just obey and not
ask questions. Suddenly the boat is attacked by something. They
see a luxury liner nearby and take help from them.
The film is gripping till the end and there is not a dull moment.
The director has taken enough care to have a comedian and two
girls who provide the glamour. The special effects are very
convincing. The scene where the creature eats the flesh but
throws away the bones is effective.
A weird creature which has been computer-generated has the brain
of an intelligent human being and the strength of 1000 muscle
men. This creature creates havoc killing the passengers of the
ship.
Stephen Sommers, the director of ``Mummy'', has done a neat job
to capture the complete attention of the viewer. Each frame is
carefully shot and all the artistes - Treat Williams, Samke
Janssen, Wel Studi, Antony Heald, Kevin J O' Conner, Derrick O'
Conner, Jason Flemyng, Cliff Curtis and Uma Damon as Lila - have
done their job well.
Jerry Gold Smith's music enhances the proceedings. John Wright
has done a neat job on the editing table. Howard Atherton has
photographed some of the scenes with stunning effect. The film is
ably directed by Stephen Sommers.
