Conditioning camp: rains come in the way
PUNE, MAY 18. Pre- monsoon showers hitting the city since
Wednesday night proved a spoilsport washing out the fourth day of
the ten-day conditioning camp for the Indian probables being held
at the Poona Club grounds in preparation for the May 28 - June 7
Asia Cup at Dhaka.
The city has been receiving intermittent showers since Wednesday
afternoon and late in the night which has left the ground soggy,
though the skies cleared but an early morning shower on Thursday
sent the players scampering into the pavillion. Despite the
practice pitch being covered, the wet ground conditions were far
from conducive for any practice session.
Coach Kapil Dev, however, managed some stretching exercise
session at the indoor badminton hall of the Poona Club before
calling off the day's session. The physio, Andrew Leipus, kept
the probables busy at the Hotel Blue Diamond swimming pool
conducting some physical fitness exercises followed by a water
polo session.
Kapil wanted to have an afternoon session but after seeing the
cloudy skies and more prospects of rain, decided to cancel the
session.
The condition of injured all-rounder Robin Singh, meanwhile, has
improved and he appears to be thoroughly fit after colliding with
S. Shriram and receiving forehead injury on the second day of the
camp.
Dr. Subhash Patki, who is attending on him, said that Robin Singh
was absolutely fit and there was no cause for worry.
