U.S. distances itself from Pak. S.C. verdict

WASHINGTON, MAY 18. The U.S. has distanced itself from the recent Pakistani Supreme Court verdict validating the military coup but asked the army regime to restore a democratic government as soon as possible.

``On the Supreme Court of Pakistan's decision, I think we would simply say that overturning democracy is not right. We have expressed our concerns and our view that the need is to get back to a democratic government as soon as possible,'' the State Department spokesman, Mr. Richard Boucher, said.
