Bandh hits normal life in Assam

GUWAHATI, MAY 18. Normal life was hit in Bodo and Karbi-dominated areas of Assam today following a dawn-to-dusk state-wide Bandh called separately by the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) along with their allied organisations.

Kokrajhar, parts of Bongaigaon district falling under the Bodoland Autonomous Council and Bodo pockets in Nalbari district, observed the ABSU-sponsored bandh, while life in Karbi Anglong district and most parts of neighbouring north Cachar Hills remained paralysed in response to the Bandh by th ASDC. No Untoward incident was reported when reports last came in.

All shops and markets downed their shutters and private vehicles remained off the roads, though long distance buses plied with police escort.
