Big contest on the small screen
WAKE UP, Chennaites. For Lara Dutta will finally be seen on city
TV screens, thanks to Zee English.
But the good news remains, which is that the channel that was
earlier put on hold by cable networks, will finally see the light
of day in Chennai. Well, for starters on Saturday.
Last minute negotiations with the local operators finally managed
to clinch the deal for Zee English. `` Yes, we will be
telecasting the programme tomorrow. We have about 67 channels. We
are yet to slot it. But that will be done by evening,'' said a
spokesperson for Sumangali Cable Vision, which feeds the Chennai
operators, on Friday afternoon.
Zee Movies and Zee English, were launched a couple of months ago,
around the same time that HBO made its entry. Though HBO made it
to Chennai homes earlier, it has been a long wait for the new Zee
channels.
Zee English will be bringing the Miss Universe 2000 contest from
Cyprus, live. That's at 7.30 a.m. on May 13. And those who do not
rise in time, need not worry. For the channel will also be
repeating the telecast the same day at 8 p.m.
What makes the contest more interesting is that Miss India-
Universe Lara Dutta was declared the first-runner up in the
National Costume Round, one of the preliminary rounds, featuring
79 models from all over the world.
