FRS honour for TIFR professor
CHENNAI, MAY 12. Dr. M.S. Raghunathan, professor in the Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, has been elected
Fellow of the Royal Society of London. Announcing this in a
communicate from London last night the vice-president of the
Royal Society, Prof. Patrick Bateson, said the honour was being
conferred on Prof. Raghunathan for his contribution to the
improvement of ``Natural Knowledge''.
Prof. Raghunathan has been the recipient of many other awards
including the Santi Swaroop Bhatnagar Award (1977), Srinivasa
Ramanujan Gold medal (1991) given by the INSA, and the Third
World Academy Prize (1991).
Prof. Raghunathan also holds the S.N. Bose Professorship of INSA
since 1999.
He is also chairman of the National Board of Higher Mathematics,
Dept. of Atomic Energy, and Mehta Institute of Mathematics and
Mathematical Physics, Allahabad.
During his long and distinguished academic career he has
participated in mathematical research and teaching in the leading
universities of many countries as visiting professor.
