WB loan for AP project

NEW DELHI, MAY 12.The World Bank has extended a $ 111-million
international development assistance (IDA) loan to Andhra Pradesh
for the district poverty initiative project in six poorest
districts.
The project, to be implemented over five years, aims at improving
opportunity for the rural poor by creation of self- managed grass
roots institutions, building capacity of gram sabhas, panchayats
and Government departments and improving education for girls.
A tripartite agreement was today signed by the World Bank Country
Director, Mr. Edwin R Lim, the Finance Ministry Joint Secretary,
Mr.R.S. Sharma, the Andhra Pradesh Principal Secretary, Mr.S.
Ray, the Social Welfare Secretary, Mr. R.R. Acharya, and the
Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty Chief Executive Officer,
Mr.K. Raju
According to an official release, the IDA will provide $ 111-
million (about Rs. 488 crores) for the $ 134.8 million project.
