'Centre has no clear cut policy on Sri Lanka'
By Our Special Correspondent
MADURAI, MAY 12. The Janata Party president, Dr. Subramanian
Swamy, has criticised the Vajpayee Government for not having any
``clear cut policy'' on the Sri Lankan issue.
Talking to reporters here today, he flayed the NDA Government for
its confusing approach to the issue, which was detrimental to the
country's security. India should force Sri Lanka to commit itself
to an Indian-type federal Constitution, as per the Indo-Sri Lanka
agreement, and consider the North and East as a single province.
Dr. Swamy said there was no question of holding talks with the
LTTE. However, he favoured parleys with `democratic- minded' Sri
Lankan Tamil leaders presently living in the country.
He demanded a ban on the Dravidar Kazhagam, Tamilar Desiya
Iyakkam and other organisations which were acting as ``proxies''
of the LTTE. He urged the Government to arrest the DK leader, Mr.
K. Veeramani, the Tamilar Desiya Iyakkam president, Mr. Nedumaran
and the Pudhiya Tamilagam chief, Dr. K. Krishnasamy, under the
National Security Act for their ``pro- LTTE'' stance.
