Fresh strains are here
BLACK, TRADITIONAL music comes to the city with Granmoun Lele and
his family band from Reunion Island. Presented by the Alliance
Francaise, Chennai and the Hotel Mercure Mount-Road (Grand
Orient), on May 8, at 7-30 p.m. at Gandhi Mandapam, the show will
feature the unique fusion music called Maloya. Lele, a labourer
at St Benoit, situated on the East Coast of the Reunion Island
had picked up the style from his kin and formed a troupe. Today
eight of his children and his wife are part of the band.
