CPI(M) 'releases' panel report

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, MAY. 5. Charging the Tamil Nadu Government with deliberately ``holding back'' the major recommendations of the Kolappan Committee report on farm labour even 16 months after it was submitted, the State unit of the CPI(M)'s Agricultural Workers Union today released to the media copies of the report.

The Union's president and former MLA, Mr. G. Veeraiyan and its general secretary, Mr. S. Thirunavukkarasu, who was a member of that panel, told that though the only recommendation on wage revision for farm labour had been made public by the Government, there was no administrative machinery to oversee its implementation by land owners.

The consensus report had made such far-reaching recommendations including pension for agricultural labour that Government trying to ``black out its contents'' was highly regrettable, they said.

Stating that the Agricultural Wing members and volunteers will fan out into the rural areas in 200 groups from May 18 to May 22 to publicise the report's contents to the farm labourers, they said that will be followed up by a `Dharna' in front of all State Government offices throughout Tamil Nadu on May 29 to press for the implementation of the report.
