Bihar lawyers boycott courts
PATNA, MAY 5. Work in Bihar's district courts and the Patna High
Court was affected today due to the Bihar Bar Council's strike
call to protest against the killing of two lawyers.
Lawyers of district courts held condolence meetings and staged
dharnas to protest the killings, Mr. Brij Kishore Prasad, Bihar
Bar Council president, said.
Raghuvir Sharan and A. K. Srivastava, senior advocates, were
killed last week in Siwan and Bettiah.
Members of the Council, Patna High Court Advocate Association and
lawyers associations held a joint condolence meeting and sat on a
dharna before the Patna High Court.
Mr. Prasad and a delegation of the lawyers associations met the
Governor, Mr. V. C. Pande and gave him a memorandum asking
security for lawyers.
They also demanded an ex-gratia payment of Rs 25 Lakh to the
dependents of the advocates.
