Division of Bihar: RJD appeal
By Our Staff Correspondent
PATNA, MAY 5. Even as the Bihar Reorganisation Bill, 2000, is
likely to be sent back to the President soon with the opinion of
the State Legislature, the working president of the ruling RJD,
Dr. Ranjan Prasad Yadav, today appealed to all political parties
to reconsider their stand in the greater interest of the
State.Mr. Yadav maintained that the consequences of bifurcating
the State would be disastrous to both the regions and it was
imperative for MPs and MLAs of the RJD, Congress(I), Samata Party
and JD(U) to consider the issue with a cool head.
He said that the RJD had been handicapped in implementing its
stand for a unified Bihar as it had failed to receive the
required mandate in this regard. He said that since the mandate
had not gone in its favour, the RJD had little option but to
support the Bill in the Legislature.
Mr. Yadav maintained that it was his personal opinion that it was
not too late even now for all concerned to take broad view of the
situation in the light of the fact that the division of Bihar
would give filip to the movements in Maharashtra and Andhra
Pradesh and that the experience of dividing Assam into smaller
States had not solved the regions problems.
