U.P. Assembly by-election notified

LUCKNOW, MAY 2. Notification for the by-election to the Soran Assembly seat in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh was issued today. The seat fell vacant after the death of Onkar Singh of the Bharatiya Janata party in an accident.

The last date for filing nomination papers is May 9 and polling is to be held on May 26. The State Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Noor Mohammad, said electronic voting machine (EVMs) will be used for the polling and all the voters would have to carry their identity cards for the purpose.

MP Assembly by-election

Notification for by-election to Kirnapur Assembly constituency in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh was issued today. The last day for filing of nominations is May 9. Scrutiny will take place the next day. The last date for withdrawals is May 12. The voting will be held on May 26 through electronic voting machines.

The by-election is necessitated because of the murder of the State Transport Minister, Likhiram Kawre, in December last year.
