CBI launches preliminary inquiry into match-fixing
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, MAY 2.As a first step to get the probe going into the
charges of cricket match-fixing, the Central Bureau of
Investigatiaon (CBI) today registered a preliminary enquiry (PE)
after it received a reference from the Sports Ministry to conduct
a probe into the scandal that has taken the cricketing world by
storm.
The reference asked the CBI to make a general inquiry into the
allegations of match-fixing. Sources said the reference has not
set a cut-off date from where the CBI should begin its probe in
the match-fixing charges. The Special Crime Branch of the CBI
will probe the case, sources said.
