Notice to jail superintendent in match-fixing case
NEW DELHI, MAY 1. A city court today issued show-cause notice to
a Tihar jail superintendent to explain as to why Kishen Kumar, an
accused in the match-fixing scandal, could not be produced before
it despite its order, in a FERA violation case. The Additional
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Ms. Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal,
issued the notice, asking him to appear before the court, along
with the accused on Wednesday. The notice was issued after the
Crime Branch police, under whose custody Kishen Kumar is being
interrogated, submitted they had no information from the
superintendent about his production.
The Enforcement Directorate, which had arrested Kishan Kumar for
his alleged involvement in Hawala transactions relating to the
match-fixing case, today sought extension of his judicial remand,
though it was opposed by the defence counsel, Mr. H.R. Khan
Suhel. The court will hear the ED's application along with
Kumar's bail plea on Wednesday.
Rajesh Kalra, the first accused in the case, was yesterday
remanded to judicial custody till May 13 by a duty Magistrate.
