Bank officers' call for nationwide strike
CALCUTTA, APRIL 20. The All India Bank Officers' Confederation
(AIBOC) today renewed its call for a nationwide strike in all
public and private sector banks on April 26 following failure of
a conciliation process with the Indian Bankers Association (IBA).
In a statement issued here today, the AIBOC general secretary,
Mr. S.R. Sengupta alleged that the conciliatory proceedings, held
by the conciliation officer and regional labour commissioner
(central), Mumbai yesterday, failed because of the evasive stand
taken by the IBA and for lack of commitment of the management for
implementing the revised salary agreement in the UCO Bank, the
Indian Bank and the United Bank of India. The IBA reportedly
disowned its responsibility contending that it was up to the
respective management of the three banks to implement the new
agreement.
