RJD walks out over PDS prices

NEW DELHI, APRIL 20. Rashtriya Janata Dal members today staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha protesting against the increase in the prices of foodgrains released through the public distribution system (PDS).

The walkout came when the Minister of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr. Shanta Kumar, remarked during question hour that the Government had not withdrawn or reduced the subsidy on foodgrains. It has been only re-focussed to ensure that the benefit reached the poorest sections, he said.

At this, the RJD leader, Mr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, and his colleagues walked out of the House, saying the cut in the subsidies had hit the poor.
