Court rejects plea for Kishan Kumar'sremand
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI, APRIL 20. A Delhi court on Thursday dismissed an
application by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police seeking
remand of actor Kishan Kumar in the cricket match-fixing case.
In a related development, another city court granted permission
to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate Kishan Kumar
at Tihar Jail here for two days.
The Metropolitan Magistrate, Mr.K.S. Mohi, dismissed the Crime
Branch application following a Delhi High Court order granting an
Interim Anticipatory Bail (IAB) to Kishan Kumar. Mr.
Mohi also directed the police not to arrest Kishan Kumar till
April 25.
Mr. Mohi added that the police application had become
``infructuous'' in the wake of the High Court granting IAB to
Kishan Kumar till April 25. He also allowed the police to move a
fresh application, if they so desired, after April 25.
Meanwhile, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Ms.
Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal, allowed Kishan Kumar's interrogation by
two ED officials at Tihar Jail on April 21 and 22. She also
directed the Crime Branch to hand over to the ED documents
relating to the alleged hawala transactions by Kishan Kumar and
Rajesh Kalra, another accused in match-fixing case.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Mr. P.K. Srivastava,
who was summoned by the court, assured that the relevant
documents would be handed over to the ED.
