Rs. 722 cr. Central aid for Gujarat sought

NEW DELHI, APRIL 20. A delegation of Union Ministers and MPs from Gujarat submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, on Wednesday seeking immediate central assistance to the tune of Rs. 722 crores to meet the drought situation in the State.

The delegation included Union Ministers, Mr. Kashiram Rana, Mr. Arun Jaitley, Mr. Harin Pathak, Dr. Vallabhbhai Kathiria and MPs from Gujarat. Mr. Advani has also been elected to the Lok Sabha from the Gandhinagar constituency in Gujarat. According to a Gujarat Government press release here, Mr. Advani assured the delegation that funds would immediately be released from the National Calamity Relief Fund.

The memorandum stated that there was severe drought in 9,521 villages in 17 districts and a large number of cattle had perished due to acute shortage of water and fodder.
