Narayana Murthy, new co-chairman of Indo-British Partership
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, APRIL 10. Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, chief of Infosys
Technologies, will take over as co-chairman of the Indo-British
Partnership (IBP).
Mr. Murthy assumes office at a time when the IBP is changing
gears and is poised to take on new dimensions especially in the
IT field and enlarge British cooperation with different States of
India and with new sectors of Indian industry.
Mr. Murthy, who heads India's second most valuable company and
the first to be listed on Nasdaq, will take over from Mr.
Kumarmangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla group of
companies. Mr. David Jefferies, Chairman of National Grid, U.K.,
is the co-chairman from the British side.
The Indo-British Partnership was launched in 1993 by the then
prime ministers of Britain and India - Mr. John Major and Mr. P.
V. Narasimha Rao - to provide a concerted industry-led initiative
to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two
countries. Since then, IBP is stated to have been an effective
instrument to promote bilateral trade and investment.
