Demonstration against price rise

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 10. Volunteers, legislators and leaders of the parties constituting the secular democratic front today took out a rally and held a demonstration condemning the hike in the prices of LPG, kerosene, urea and other essential commodities.

Mr.V.Vaithilingam and Mr. N Rangasamy, both Congress MLAs, Mr.K.Lakshminarayanan, general secretary of TMC, Mr.K.Natarajan and Mrs S Arasi (both AIADMK MLAs), Mr.R.Viswanathan, MLA, and Mr.N.Kalainathan (both CPI) Mr.T.Murugan and Mr.P.Sankaran (both CPI-M) Mr.E.Ganesan (Janata Dal-Secular) and representatives of women's wings, students and youth wing leaders and former legislators Mr.N.Gurusamy and Mr.Venkatasamy were among those who participated in the rally.

Mr.Natarajan of AIADMK said that the threat of uniform sales tax being introduced in the Union Territory should be tackled. Mr.Gandhiraj, former minister, said that the increase in the prices of essential commodities had been effected as per the dictates of the multi-national companies. He said that the stir against this would continue.
