Adjournment move for House business panel
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, APRIL 10. The Assembly will take up the issue of rise in
the price of kerosene and LPG after discussion at the business
advisory committee meeting.
A suggestion to this effect made by the Chief Minister, Mr. M.
Karunanidhi, was accepted by the Speaker, Mr. P.T.R. Palanivel
Rajan, today.
Earlier, the Speaker refused permission to the TMC member, Mr. C.
Gnanasekaran, to bring up the issue in the House. When Mr.
Gnanasekaran claimed that there were precedents of members
raising any issue during the zero hour, the Speaker said the
member could merely mention that he had given notice for an
adjournment motion on the price hike and not press the matter.
When Mr. Gnanasekaran insisted on having his say, the Speaker
warned him: ``Don't show your anger.'' The TMC member blamed the
State Government for its support of the Centre's decision while
the TDP and the Trinamool Congress, which was a part of the
ruling NDA, had opposed the increases.
The CPI member, Mr. K. Subbarayan, pointed out that he too had
given notice on this issue, and that it would not be proper to
allow Mr. Gnanasekaran alone to speak on the issue. Allowing Mr.
Gnanasekaran to speak would infringe on his privileges as a
member, he said. The Speaker said he agreed with Mr. Subbarayan
and asked Mr. Gnanasekaran to resume his seat.
