RPI (Athawle) for Dalits in Pondy Ministry

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 8. The Republican Party of India (Athawle) has sought representation for Dalits in the newly-formed Pondy Ministry.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting of the office-bearers of the Pondicherry unit of the party. Speaking to presspersons here today, Mr. S. Gnanamoorthy, president of the Pondy unit said RPI believed in cordial and fraternal relations with the backward classes.

He said that the RPI (Athawle) national committee president Mr. Ramdoss Athwale MP and the PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss would be invited in June by the local committee to hoist party flags in the reserved segments of Pondicherry and Karaikal regions.

Volunteers of the party would also pay tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on the occasion of the leader`s birth anniversary on April 14. The PMK founder would also be invited to garland the statue of Dr. Ambedkar at the Tiruchitrambalam Kootrodu on the Pondicherry-Tindivanam route.

Other demands of the party include free house site pattas to the Dalits through the Department of Adi-Dravidar Welfare, field assessment on the implementation and impact of various welfare programmes for the Dalits.

The party also demanded raising of the incentive given for marriage of a girl in Adi-Dravidar family to Rs. 10,000 from Rs. 7,500, enhancing the age-ceiling for jobs from 35 to 37 for candidates belonging to the Adi-Dravidar community, increased loans for self-employment projects and presentation of a white paper on cases registered under the Protection of Civil Liberties Act.
