DYFI to campaign for right to job
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 8. The Democratic Youth Federation of
India (DYFI) has decided to organise a nation-wide campaign to
get ``right to employment'' declared as a fundamental right.
The sixth national conference of the DYFI, now on here, also
decided to launch struggles in association with other youth
organisations against the freeze on new recruitment to Central
Government services. The conference also underscored the need to
persist with reservation for the socially, economically and
educationally backward communities.
It arrived at these positions after a detailed discussion on the
proposals mooted by the seven commissions on different topics
including unemployment, young women's issues and challenges posed
by the changing socio-economic situation in the country. The
conference called upon the youth of the country to realise the
attempts being made by communal forces to prevent the growth of
struggles against unemployment. It also called for vigilance
against the campaign that Hindus failed to get jobs as they were
being cornered by Muslims.
The DYFI conference decided to make women's issues a major
component of its agenda and reminded its cadres that they should
be committed to fight against all attacks on women.
The documents approved by the conference has emphasised the need
to find solutions for the various problems of women.
The discussions on the political organisational report of the
conference which began today would conclude tomorrow. The office-
bearers would reply to the points raised during the discussion on
Monday morning.
The conference would conclude on Monday with a white volunteer
parade and a public meeting to be addressed by, among others, the
CPI(M) general secretary, Mr. Harkishen Singh Surjeet.
