India, Tunisia sign extradition treaty

CAIRO, APRIL 8. India and Tunisia have signed an extradition treaty to make cooperation between the two countries in suppression of crime more effective.

The treaty was signed earlier this week when the Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Ajit Kumar Panja, visited Tunis to attend the Eighth Indo-Tunisian Joint Commission meeting, an official accompanying him told PTI here.

Mr. Panja was on transit here from Tunisia to Sudan where he will attend the second meeting of the Indo-Sudan Joint Commission.

India and Tunisia also signed a memorandum of understanding in the area of agriculture to promote cooperation in aquaculture, fish genetics and fish processing, soil conservation, vegetable and animal production, and exchange of training courses and experts along with genetic material and scientific information.

A programme for cooperation in the fields of science and technology focussing on areas of bio-technology, information science, medical sciences and renewable energy sources was also firmed up by the two countries, the official said.
