Under-18 National from April 6
JAMSHEDPUR, APRIL 3. Over 140 participants would take part in the
10th National chess championship (U-18) for boys and girls to be
held here from April 6-14.
The meet was being held under the aegis of all India Chess
Federation (AICF), Bihar Chess Academy (BCA) patron T.C.
Alexander said here on Sunday.
He said in view of keen interest in chess, both BCA and AICF were
engaged in nurturing young talents to become future Grand Masters
but public patronage was needed in this regard. Alexander was one
of those behind the tournament organisation.
The secretary of AICF Mr. P. T. Umarkoya would be present in the
inaugural function on April 5 which would be inaugurated by Tata
Steel vice-president Mr.A N. Singh.
The contenders would include four blind who would compete with
special gadgets. The championship was being sponsored by Tata
Steel.
