Govt. refutes TMC charge
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, APRIL 3. The Tamil Nadu Government today refuted the
TMC's allegation of irregularities and lack of quality control in
the supply of flour for making nutritious cakes being given to
children under the ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme).
Making a statement in the Assembly today, the Minister for Rural
Industries, Mr. I. Periasamy, said the sourcing of flour under
this programme was strictly in conformity with the rules by
calling for open tenders from qualified suppliers.
The Minister said Government had ensured that the nutritious
flour being supplied by cooperative societies was on a par with
the quality specified under the World Bank assisted scheme.
Awaiting the implementation of the new centralised procurement
policy, to ensure uninterrupted supply of the nutritious food to
children in the interrignum, the earlier contract for supply of
flour had been extended upto March 31, 2000, Mr. Periyasamy said.
There was no violation of the financial code in this, he said, in
response to the charge made during the budget debate by the TMC
MLA, Dr. Chellakumar last week.
